NORTH DEVON JOURNAL "12.3.1908 8F Braunton Death - It is with regret that we have to record the death of an old and much respected resident of Braunton in the person of Mrs Fanny Besly. Mrs Besly was the widow of the late Mr Henry Besly of Brentford, and had resided in Braunton for a number of years. The deceased evinced a sympathetic interest in all local affairs. Mrs Besly passed away at her residence in North Street, Braunton, on Saturday, the funeral taking place on Tuesday. The interment was made in St Brannock’s Burial Ground, amid signs of general regret. The Rev. E.R. Gotto officiated, and a large number assembled as a tribute of respect. The mourners were, Misses Edith and Norah Besly (daughters); Mr and Mrs J.C. Besley (son and daughter in law), Madeira; Mrs Rutland (niece from Hertford); and Master Dennis Besly (nephew). Dr W. Harper was also present. The coffin was of polished oak with heavy brass fittings, and was carried from the house to the churchyard. The breastplate bore the inscription :- “Fanny Besly aged 69.”

NORTH DEVON JOURNAL 20.7.1939 5F Braunton Death - The death has taken place of Mrs Kate Marion Tweedie, wife of Mr A.J. Tweedie, of “Brittons”. Mrs Tweedie, who was formerly Miss Besley of Braunton. Members of her family have been associated with Braunton for a great number of years and have played a considerable part in the development of the Empire.

NORTH DEVON JOURNAL 27.7.1939 5F Braunton Funeral - The funeral took place at St. Brannock’s Church on Saturday of Mrs Tweedie. At deceased's request there was no mourning or flowers at the funeral. Mourners were the widower; Col. and Mrs Wilson (son and daughter in law); Peter Wilson (grandson); Arthur Besley and the Misses Besley (brother and sisters). The staff were represented by Miss Ford, Miss Vellacott and nurses Kelly and Perkins. (A list of other mourners follows.)
