The reason I am researching this group of Stones from Clayhanger is that I believe them to be the forebears of my Stones from Milverton and Langford Budville.

I have no idea yet as to how long they were in Clayhanger but after being thick on the ground for a few generations they were pretty much all gone by the mid 1600s.

Will - probate - 9 Sep 1637. Weaver of Clayhanger. Will written 8 Jul 1637 - sick in body but good and perfect memory - to be buried Clayhanger - a heap of bequests to unknown surnames - rest to Richord my wife - father Richard Stone and brother Emanual Stone overseers.

RICHARD STONE:

Will - probate - 27 Feb 1653/4. Yeoman of Clayhanger. Will written 20 Feb 1651/52 - weak in body - in perfect memory - 10 shillings to poor of Clayhanger - son Emanuel of Chipstable and Agnes Henborrow of Brunton Raffe my daughter six shillings and eight pence a piece within a month - Richard son of Emanuel ten pounds - other seven children of Emanuel 30 shillings apiece (divided equally among survivor should and die before reaching 21 yrs) - Agnes Henborrow grandchild 5 pound - children of daughter Johan Hawkins of ? Devon 40 shillings apiece - wife Eleanor one feather bed and also so much of my household goods and other chattels worth the sum of twenty pounds if they were sold - all the rest of my goods and chattels not before given or bequeathed I give and bequeath to my children Richard Stone and Hanna Stone.

RICHARD STONE 1606: of Brompton Ralphe at time of writting will.

John Stone executor. (Assuming from this will that the Elizabeth mentioned above is also one of John's offspring - Robert ?)
