Thomas arrived in NZ on the "Thomas Harrison" at the age of 14 years.  On the 2nd February 1846, at the age of 19, he married Ann Holland, who was a year his senior.  Anne was the daughter of George and Mary Ann Holland who arrived in Nelson on the "Bolton". They had 11 children that we know of, one of which was born and died in Australia.  The "Cyclopedia of NZ" states he was on the Australian Goldfields for 7 years. This means he and Ann must have left NZ very soon after they were married.  Their first child George William was born in Victoria, another child Mary Ann was born 25 Oct. 1849 and died the following year and the third, Sarah Jane was born on the return voyage to NZ on the "Comet" from Melbourne, arriving NZ 25 Mar. 1853.
In the 1854 - 1855 Jury List he is listed as a farmer, Suburban Sth.  Then in the Jury Lists from 1855 thru to 1856/57 he is listed as a publican, Suburban South. Things change in the 1857/8 thru to 1861/62 lists when he is listed as a farmer of Waimea East.
He later took up land at Hope and Richmond. Had "Genia Farms" in 88 Valley.  As far as land ownership went, the 1869/70 Electoral Roll states he had Sect. 17, freehold and household at Waimea East.  Also between 1872 and 1877 he is listed as having Freehold section 47 Waimea East.  In Freeholders of Nelson 1882 Thomas Kinzett, farmer of Wakefield, Waimea Co. 310 acres, 1,350 pounds.
Thomas was on the Hope School Committee, a member of Farmers Union and the Order of Oddfellows.
The last 40 years of his life he was residing in Richmond. He died in his 85th year .
