He was born in Rackenford where his parents belonged and was apprenticed there to James Potteridge, when he was 28 he went to Tiverton and made an agreement with John Besley at £10 and served 2 years, then he lived with John Hayward in Tiverton for 9 months, he then came to Membury and agreed with Thomas Paris for 3 months at 4s a week, he made another agreement with him for 6 months at 6s a week, he then got married and has worked as a day labourer
