Talk about getting carried away - what started out as looking for my ancestors spead too wide - so decided to add it all to website as might help someone else - who might, in turn, be able to tie up some of these families - really need some wills I think!

Audley appears to be the hub of the family I am researching and they seem to ooze out from there - even to marry in Newcastle - under - Lyme instead of the parish church.

There are some quite distinctive names that help as well, but have yet to find out the connection between Radulphus, Rani, Ranulphi, Rad and Randle!

In the name of God Amen. I Aron Walley of Lawton in the County of Chester Husbandman, being in a weak condition but of sound mind and good memory, do hereby make this my last Will & Testament, in the Manner & Form following.

I do give Grant & Bequeath to my Son Thomas Walley forty pounds to be paid him in a Twelvemonth after my decease together with my best Wearing Apparell & my Chest.

I do give to my Wife Mary Walley all the rest of My Real & Personall Estate in Order & for the Bringing up the three Boys Aron, Samuel & Ralph Walley.  So long as She keeps her in my name and does not Marry again.  And if She Chance to marry again than she Shall but have five Pounds, the Rest to be Equally divided amongst the three said Boys & if any of them Chance to die, the Survivours Shall have it Equally divided amonst them.

I do give to Mary Shufflebothom of Butt Lane, widow twenty shillings.

View from Church Street of St. Giles - built on this site in 1721 (over a medieval church) - the 1721 church was demolished in 1872 but the original tower (containing elements of the C13 tower) was left standing. The replacement church was built between 1873-76 onto the original tower.

Cottages on the Marsh

Sandbach (pronounced Sandbatch) gets its name from the Anglo-Saxon 'Sandbæce' meaning 'sandy valley-stream'.  The settlement, mentioned in the Domesday Book, has held a market since the 16th century.

Sandbach was a salt town, later silk and still has many old, interesting houses. The thatched Black Bear pub carries a date of 1634
